Emily Stedman, Greenwich Street 9/11 Code Blue |
This painting, called Greenwich Street 9/11 Code Blue, was made after 9/11, after witnessing the event from our roof on Greenwich Street. The people on the lower left represent the thousands of people streaming up Greenwich Street that morning away from the Trade Center. The glowing light is the eery, smoking light coming up from the remains of the Trade Center and from which an acrid, burning smell has lingered on for months. This event, has changed our way of life in so many ways, big and small. It will never be the same. I didn't especially care for the big impersonal Trade Center buildings, but I miss them now. |
