Like most Americans I was completely shocked by the bombing of the World Trade Center last year. As an artist I wanted to make some kind of memorial. The result is Requiem for September 11, a series of 45 translucent hand printed banners with the names, images and captions from the New York Times Portraits of Grief published regularly since the tragedy. It was installed in early September this year in Buffalo, NY in an arcade adjacent to the CEPA Gallery. The Buffalo News (9/13/02) says"...(Tatana Kellner's) memorial is artistically, almost self-effacing. It finds exactly the right tone - neither detached nor freighted with artistic ego". |
