I wanted to do a positive image; an image of strength but also one showing that we had been hurt but were rising up again, like a Phoenix with wings of red, white and blue. I depicted the ashes and the ruins, and yet there is a sun overhead symbolizing hope, symbolizing the future and the light ahead. This was my first patriotic painting, and it came from my heart. |
