Kim Taylor, NY Sketch |
There really is not much to say about this painting. In fact, it actually is unfinished. In the summer of 2001 I became interested in city scapes and started a series of paintings depicting various skylines, not in an exact literal sense, but just bits and pieces from particular cities I liked. I started painting the Twin Towers in late August '01 and, using several different photos I had of the towers, I wasn't really sure what I was trying to capture . I got stuck after using red to paint both towers. Soon I was just frustrated with the overall look of the piece and put it aside. It wasn't until about a week after 9/11 that I even thought of it, pulled it out of the storage area , and really looked at it. It looked entirely different to me. And I couldn't bring myself to complete it once I knew what had happened there. Looking at this painting now just continues to remind me of the fact that every where I turn I still feel a deep sense of loss. |
